Plastic waste mismanagement is one of the defining environmental challenges of our time. The project partner tackles this head-on by building a large-scale, community-driven collection network that enables consumers to return all types of plastic household packaging, including flexible and rigid plastics that are typically under-collected or improperly disposed of.

Operating across more than 50 locations on Java, the program uses a cash-for-plastic model, with payments transferred directly to collectors' digital wallets through an application. By placing economic value on waste, the model incentivizes responsible disposal and reduces plastic leakage into rivers and oceans. In areas without formal waste infrastructure, it offers a sustainable alternative to open burning and environmental dumping.

Collection is structured around a multi-stakeholder network: individual consumers, local communities, informal waste pickers (pemulung), and aggregation hubs (lapak) all channel plastic to a dedicated Material Recovery Facility (MRF). At the heart of this network sit the project collection hubs— community-embedded collection points that serve as the critical link between local waste generators and the formal recovery system. Each hub acts as a trusted, accessible drop-off point where households and small-scale collectors can bring all types of mixed plastics, receive immediate payment, and participate directly in the circular economy. By decentralizing the collection process, the hubs remove barriers to participation and ensure that even the most remote or underserved communities have a viable route for responsible waste disposal.

Beyond logistics, the project carries significant social value. They create visible, local anchors for behavior change, normalizing plastic return as a community habit rather than an exception. The hubs also serve as platforms for education and outreach, fostering awareness around plastic pollution, proper sorting, and the broader environmental stakes. In many areas, they represent one of the few formal touch points connecting informal waste workers to a dignified, structured, and financially rewarding livelihood.

At the MRF, collected materials undergo manual and mechanical sorting, cleaning, and baling. The resulting high-quality bales are sold into the recycling industry, reducing reliance on virgin plastic and supporting local circular manufacturing systems.

The project is registered under the Plastic Pollution Reduction Standard (PPRS). The project also holds Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Recycling Subprogram Certification issued by Zero Plastic Oceans (ZPO), independently verifying that the plastic collected is genuinely at risk of entering the ocean and is being managed ethically and responsibly. Together, PPRS and OBP certification provide buyers with a robust dual layer of credibility — covering both the integrity of the credit issuance process and the ocean-bound status of the material itself.

Revenue from plastic credit sales is reinvested directly into scaling the network, expanding processing capacity, upgrading infrastructure and equipment, and extending the reach of the project into underserved and remote communities. Educational programs in schools and local communities complement the collection activity, deepening engagement and long-term behavior change.

With continued investment, the initiative aims to expand across a wider geographic footprint throughout the Indonesian archipelago, amplifying environmental impact and delivering inclusive economic opportunity at scale. This is a transparent, regenerative model for plastic recovery, built to grow.

Take the guess work out of the flow!
Size: 58.3mm, Color: Black
I got this because when my wife makes espresso, it's watery. When i make it, it's fine. We needed a controlled Tampering method so we both do the same job. This is heavy, and being able to use the whole hand instead of fingers, not much effort is needed. Since we purchased this, we were able to make consistent espresso shots for sure.

Not as good as I expected
When it first came, the box fell apart as I was taking it out, and a lot of some kind of dirt or sand kept falling out all over my table and floor. I had the take the entire thing apart and thoroughly wash it. After drying age reassembling it, I tried it on my portafilter that came with my Breville Barista Express, but, somehow, it doesn't always make the tamping level. You would think with the ridge that rests on the side of the portafilter that it would force it to remain level, but, somehow, it doesn't, at least not consistently. It also has varying lengths (heights, or depths), and a single spring tension, so you may still over tamping or under-tamp. I was expecting it would have a censor that would just detect once it reached 30 lbs of force and cut off after that, similar to a torque screwdriver, but that's not what this is. I'll still give it 3 stars because, despite the problems mentioned above, it at least produces some amount of consistency, even if that isn't measurable; but, I can't give it 5 stars because of those issues mentioned above.

This is the one.

As an el Supremo Coffee Geek, I've wasted money on lots of different tampers. Save your money and buy this one or it's equivalent. This thing is heavy duty, solid, well-made, self-leveling, tamps at 30 pounds and is fool-proof even for fools. Also, it's a palm tamper meaning more fun and more satisfying to use as you prep the puck for your morning buzz. Buy it. You will thank me.

Super easy to use and takes the guess-work out of getting even pressure on the grounds
Size: 58.3mm, Color: Black, Size: 58.3mm, Color: Black
I have been using a hand tamper for many years and have a good idea of the pressure I am applying to the grounds in the portafilter. I honestly considered spring tampers to be a bit silly. But this tamper really does take the guess-work out of pressing the coffee grounds. The shroud helps guide the press so that pressure is applied even and flat across the surface. With the manual tamper, there will be some play when pressing, or some unevenness in pressure. This is especially true when cranking out many espressos during a breakfast party with friends. Having the spring tamper makes quick work of turning out a lot of coffees with consistency. There are no instructions for taking this tamper apart to clean inside, and you may not really need to do that very often. After each use, just pull back the shroud (the black piece that moves up and down) and wipe off the tamper (the shiny steel part). This will help prevent grounds from working their way inside. If you do want to take it apart, it’s easy. Pull back the shroud and unscrew the tamper. It will come apart into three pieces. Wipe the pieces off and reassemble. Super quick and easy. This tamper is very heavy. My scale shows 656 g (about a pound and a half). It fits the portafilter exactly, with no slop. Just place on top of grounds and press!. Don’t even worry about pressure, just push down all the way. Overall I had fun using this tamper versus my manual one. And since I make myself a cappuccino very early in the morning, I don’t have to be very awake to get a good pack on the grounds and get my coffee fast!
